Do I need to have an account with BNP Paribas to obtain a loan?

I am an American student who has a question regarding banks, apparently BNP Paribas doesn’t like opening accounts for American citizens because of the FATCA regulation. I tried opening an account with them 2 years ago and I never received a response. Is it necessary to have a BNP account in order to get the loan guarantee? I have an account at another French bank.

Thanks for your message. Yes you’ll need a BNP bank account to get a loan. You should be able to open an account if you have complete a autocertification paper proving that you’ll fulfill your tax obligations in the US (more info here)
